Get to know some of GOTAFE's WorldSkills competitors
A contingent of GOTAFE representatives will compete on the WorldSkills stage.
GOTAFE students are set to showcase their exceptional talents at the 2025 WorldSkills Australia National Championships, taking place from June 12 to 14 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
In 2024, nine students qualified to represent Victoria in a diverse array of trades and technologies.
Get to know some of GOTAFE’s competitors below:
Motorcycle Mechanics
Ethan Marsh and Hayley Hopkins - both completing a Certificate III in Motorcycle Mechanical Technology (AUR30820) - will take on the best of the best in the Motorcycle Mechanics competition.
"They both performed exceptionally well, each demonstrating impressive individual talents and skills,” Jack Arnold, Trainer and Assessor, Automotive Trades and Built Environment, said of his charges’ efforts at regionals.
"This is my first experience with WorldSkills, having been with GOTAFE for just over 12 months.
"It's an amazing opportunity to highlight their abilities.”

Construction Steelwork
Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade (MEM31922) fourth-year apprentice Fraser Ellis is excited for his first WorldSkills Australia competition.
He will be tackling the Contruction Steelwork category.
“It feels like a proper test of what I’ve been learning as I’ve been getting all of these skills,” Fraser said
“I’d definitely like to thank GOTAFE for giving me the access to some of the resources, because lots of different places in construction steelwork have their focuses and niches and stuff that they work on and so construction steel, the part that I’m going into, is a little bit different to what I do every day (at Furphy Engineering).
“(GOTAFE) has been awesome in helping me get those skills that a lot of other people would already have at their workplaces.
“They try to make it as even a playing field as possible.”

Cyber Security
Jakk Devlin, a dedicated student at GOTAFE, is making significant strides in the field of cybersecurity.
Jakk's enthusiasm and expertise have earned him a spot in the prestigious WorldSkills Australia competition, where he will represent GOTAFE in the cybersecurity category.
This opportunity allows him to showcase his skills on a national platform, reflecting the practical and industry-relevant training he has received.
After completing a Certificate III in Information Technology in 2023, he advanced to a Certificate IV in Cyber Security, demonstrating his commitment to the ever-evolving tech industry.
His passion for understanding and optimizing computer systems has not only fueled his academic pursuits but also led to work in industry.

Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
Jed is a Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (UEE3220) student at GOTAFE.
Currently working for John Morrow Refrigeration in Shepparton as an apprentice, Jed appreciates the variety the trade offers.
Recently, Jed took part in the regional round of WorldSkills, where he competed against fellow students.
The day’s challenges included diagnosing a refrigeration fault, identifying an electrical fault, and building a can cooler from scratch.
“We all learned so much, and it was really fun being able to create something from scratch.”
“It’s really fun knowing that each day will be different and that I’ll learn something new that will help me in the future,” he said.
“There are so many different pathways within the trade, and I’m discovering more every week.”
